Small groups focusing on topics or readings related to liturgical seasons, such as Lent, are informal, casual, and fun. These groups offer a great way to meet and get to know people while growing in faith together. Groups may meet at church or in members' homes. Check our Calendar, weekly bulletin, or "The Lamplighter" newsletter for news about current groups.
Our Women of Northlawn (WON) group works on a variety of service projects throughout the year - and, like the three WON members in the photo below, they have a good time, too. Scroll past the photo to find out more about this great group that combines service and fun.
Women of Northlawn (WON)
Women of all ages meet monthly to enjoy each other's company and work together on service and outreach projects that help our church and people in our community. Everyone is welcome - you can join the group at any time - and it's a great way to connect and do good things for good causes. WON's biggest continuing project is the annual Grapevine Harvest Craft Show, which every year raises thousands of dollars to help area nonprofit organizations and programs of the church. Just a few of WON's many other service projects include Thanksgiving and Christmas baskets for families living in poverty, monthly "clatter offerings" to support helping agencies in the area (a different recipient each month), and the NECM food pantry basket (always in the narthex to receive donations of nonperishable food and household supplies). WON meets at 6:30 p.m. the second Monday of every month, at the church.
Yarn With a Purpose
If you knit or crochet, this one's for you! Everyone is welcome to join us for Yarn With A Purpose every Thursday at 6:30 p.m. in Room 104/105. Group members enjoy good company, chat, and create handcrafted items that comfort people in need. The group's main project is the prayer shawl ministry. They make beautiful shawls for people who are sick or otherwise need comforting, in our church family or beyond. When anyone wants to give a prayer shawl to someone, they can just go to the prayer shawl cupboard in Room 104/105 and choose a shawl. Each one comes in a lovely gift bag. The group also donates prayer shawls to Hope Lodge for cancer patients, makes various items for the Grapevine Harvest Craft Show, hosts an annual mitten tree (hats, scarves, and mittens for area schools to give needy kids), makes hats for cancer patients and for premature infants in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit at Helen DeVos Children's Hospital, and makes bereavement blankets for stillborn infants.
Yarn With A Purpose members knit and crochet prayer shawls and many other items that go to people who are sick or otherwise need comforting.
Silver Seniors Luncheons
Good food, fellowship, and fun the first Wednesday of March-April-May-June, and August-September-October-November-December. All Northlawn seniors are invited and guests are always welcome. For specific Silver Seniors dates, click here for Calendar; then find "Silver Seniors" and click on that item to see more details. If you plan to come, sign up at Connection Corner at the church; or use the Contact Us form on this page to let us know you plan to attend.
Men's Dinner Group
All men are welcome to take part in this group, which prepares and hosts monthly fundraiser dinners every spring and fall. Proceeds from the freewill offering at each dinner support programs and efforts of the church, such as the mortgage fund. This group doesn't hold meetings, they just get together to enjoy good company and serve good food for a good cause. If you'd like to be part of this friendly group, use the Contact Us form on this page to ask someone to contact you - or just show up to help. Check our Calendar, weekly worship bulletins, and "The Lamplighter" newsletter for Men's Dinner dates.
